Blog 2.0

July 24, 2006

I’ve been writing since the 80’s but it wasn’t until web logs became easier to manage that I started to share personal thoughts and insights. That was about 2 years ago and Blogger was my publishing platform. I’ve since then written hundreds and hundreds of blog entries about pretty much anything that travelled through my mind.

I’m not bragging or anything but there has been a lot of stuff going in as well as going out, both voluntary and involuntary. The former I blame curiosity, constant reading and being perseptive and the latter age, perspective and wine. Together they work very well.

While Blogger got me started on writing my own online journal they failed in making it easy to add pages and categories. I wanted to turn my blog into my personal website and categorize all entries so that it would be easier to find and understand old stuff. Everyone might not find my thoughts on technology very interesting but might like my wine recommendations, or vice versa.

So, early this morning, with a slight jetlag and a slighter hangover from yesterdays wedding in Woodside, I decided to find a new publishing platform. As always, there are only a few at the top and I picked WordPress.

The research made me realize as I’m getting a new fresh start this fall my blog should be as well. It should reflect the growth that the past 9 months off have resulted in as well as a window to the future. The interface that I’ve chosen is simple but functional. Nothing fancy on the outside but functionally very well thought out. Just as the best products should be. Simple on the outside, smart on the inside. Like a reverse Lindsey Lohan (I know, I cannot help it).
